Go see the Bees!

It's the last few days of the "Bees In The Woods" so go check it out! 

Dare I mention it in October?...You can even start your Christmas shopping early and pick up an original handmade treat, ooh!

We have a selection of bespoke handcrafted Bee Bags (Oki loves his, and fills it full of toys for every outing), screen printed "B" bags, and I have just knitted a big brown bear, who will hopefully be there to say hello tomorrow. 

You will also find a whole range of lovely goodies by top talented people :)

Tomorrow, Professor Dave Goulson (founder of Bumblebee Conservation Trust and author of A Sting In The Tale) will be at the ONCA Gallery between 4-6pm for book signing and Q&As about how we can reduce the bee decline.

We won't be able to make it, but hopefully my brown bear will be there taking notes.

Bees In The Woods

Buzz buzz buzz! The Bees In The Woods show is now open!

You can see my new Bee illustrations, as well as my usual knitted and felt creations, a few Giclee prints and some original artwork, alongside our brand new Bee Tote Bags - a first time collaboration between me and my partner. 

Sam translates my illustrations into vinyl cuts, and hand lays each design, making each bag a one-off. It's fun for both of us; a novelty to see my work on a different surface, and a more loose and fluid way of working for him.

The Private View night was packed and lots of fun :) Really lovely to meet other artists and take a look at their work - once things calmed down a little!

I loved these charming pieces by Emily Warren (Bear) and Marymoox (Creatures in boxes), and Mia Underwood's Flying Goose was stunning!

We've been asked to make and decorate our own hexagons, as part of the window display for the "Bees In The Woods" exhibition, which starts this Friday 4th October.

A sneaky peek

I've been invited to take part in a group exhibition called "Bees In The Woods" at the ONCA Gallery in Brighton, by the lovely and talented Mia Underwood. It will be on from Friday 4th- Monday 14th October, with the private view from 6:30pm on Friday 4th. 

There will be all kinds of things going on on the night, as well as throughout the show: book signings, crafty workshops, performances...plus 10% of all sales goes towards LASI research (University of Sussex) to help save our British bees! Check here for full listings.

Here's a sneaky peek of what I've been making. The Bee bag Oki is modeling is a collaboration between myself and my partner Sam :)

last weekend!

A quick reminder to let you know it's the last weekend of the wonderful group exhibition "In This Place, In This Time" at The Crypt Gallery in Euston, so please go check it out :)

Today, we went to The Crypt Gallery in Euston to see "In This Time, In This Place".
I may be slightly biased, but what an amazing show! 5 artists* with very distinct and different styles and media, but in this space, their work connected and impressed. We walked through dark corridors, strange noises echoing from within, to be surprised around each corner at what we would find.
I thoroughly recommend you go and see it! It's on every day until Sunday 8th September.

In this place, In this time

Exciting news!
My partner Sam is showcasing his most recent series of work; challenging the perception of time by recreating beautiful clocks. We've been living with these clocks for the past few months, and they have continued to surprise and delight with each passing minute and hour. There is something very beautiful and engaging about their rhythmic movement and sound, creating abstract patterns and lovely colour combinations.

His work can be seen at The Crypt Gallery in Euston, as part of a group exhibition titled "In This Place, In This Time".

My mum, Aki Moriuchi is another one of the 5 artists exhibiting their works in this unusual underground space. It will be her first exhibition since retiring from ceramics in 2007.

We will be there with our little boy tomorrow (Sunday) so please pop in and say Hi!

I've been invited to take part in a fantastic group exhibition at the 14th Moon Gallery in Osaka, Japan, called 「手から手へ」"from Hand to Hand". It will be on from Monday 17th June - Tuesday 25th June (closed on Sunday). 

Following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, a group of Japanese illustrators decided to organise this exhibition, asking the question: "What will our future be after the tsunami catastrophe and nuclear disaster?". Numerous galleries across Europe and Japan have been taking part, each gallery with its own theme. 

Our theme is "Standing", and here is my piece for it, titled "Linger".

Box 2 - last weekend!

Here are a couple of pictures from Box 2. It's the last weekend coming up, so please pop along if you have the chance. There's a 10% discount on all my stuff, ooooh!

Box 2

I'm taking part in an artists open studio again, this time in Peacehaven, as part of the Brighton festival Open House trail. It's a little bit out of Brighton but well worth the visit. The beautiful studio is set on top of a cliff! I dream of working in a studio like that.

It's called Box 2, at Lighthouse Point, 33 The Highway, Peacehaven BN10 8XL, and will be open every Saturday and Sunday during May 2012.

These little felt toys will be there, along with a few knitted toys, original artwork, limited edition Giclee prints and greeting cards.

And of course, beautiful works by Box 2, Grahame Baker-Smith, Owen Davey and David Ellwand.

Pan Macmillan Art Space

Long time no blog...my baby boy has been keeping me busy!
Some happy news! My piece "Being followed" has been selected to be shown at the Pan Macmillan Art Space, hooray :D 
It's not open to the public unfortunately, but if you are a member of staff, or a guest, you'll be able to see it when it launches in March.

Art in Brixton

I'm crossing the river this Sunday, to take part in Art in Brixton, where I will be showing and selling a few limited edition prints, along with some other talented arty friends (The friends aren't for sale, but their work will be!) 
It will take place at Windrush Square, just outside the Ritzy cinema in the heart of Brixton, between 11am-4pm. Please pop along if you're in the area :)


Some good news - "Into the Woods" will carry on through June and possibly July too, so there's still a chance you can get hold of some lovely treats!

We have now moved into our new home, hooray!
It was a full-on super chaotic busy sleep deprived weekend. It took me all week to pack up my studio, which left me with 1 day to pack up the rest of the flat!
In between packing and cleaning the flat, I went to Brighton for the day and popped into the artist open shop "Into the Woods". I thought the shop window looked great, and inside it was crammed full of a whole variety of lovely treats. Lots and lots of fun :)
It's on until the end of the month so please pop by if you have the chance!

Into The Woods...opening 7th May!

Here's the flyer for the Artist Open Shop "Into the Woods" that I am taking part in throughout May. We got on the train to Brighton last weekend with a suitcase full of knitted toys, and a bag full of felt toys, a selection of limited edition prints, original artwork and greeting cards. 
I'm hoping to visit the shop later on in the month, as I'd like to see how it's all looking, with all the other artists' work too :)
