work in progress...

Hello!
I've been hiding away in my studio making a big mess in preparation for my exhibition in Osaka, Japan this April.
I've decided to paint on canvas to save cost on shipping (much lighter and less fragile than sending framed pictures), and it's tricky! The texture of the canvas is different to painting on card, and it's a lot more physical, and the paint doesn't go very far. I'm learning and making it up as I go along.
I'm really enjoying colour, and want to move away a little bit from the bright colour schemes I often use for my commissioned work.
For inspiration, I'm revisiting the stories I read as a child growing up in Japan by some of my favourite Japanese children' s authors, including Aman Kimiko and Miyazawa Kenji.
Still got a looooong way to go........

Snow!

A rare mid-week day off together - thank you snow!
With food in our bellies, wrapped up in layers, we set out for a little walk to the park. So much snow! Big flakes falling slowly from the sky, crunching under our feet, snow creations dotted around here and there, black moor hens wandering around the frozen pond, everything in monochrome...it was lovely!
This is my first entry of 2010 for What I wore today. It's been awhile, but I have to say my outfits don't vary that much from day to day, unless I leave the house, and with this cold weather it's hard to leave the lovely warm nest that is our home :)
